It’s April 1; Easter means my toddler has turned my living room into chocolate-tinfoil graveyard; I still haven’t finished my month-end reading list from March; I cut all my hair off this week and I alternate between thinking that was either a brilliant or tragic decision; rent is due; and today’s the day I reintroduce myself to you.
As part of my work counteracting FLEB norms and practices (which have arguably become our defaults, online and culturally) I facilitate feminist marketing masterminds and work 1:1 with socially-conscious online entrepreneurs to build out their feminist marketing messages.
I draw upon the work of feminists and movement makers in my marketing consults and courses.
I realize this is not normal.
But here’s the thing: normal has never served the culture-makers and outsiders and ‘others’ and truth-tellers and paradigm-shifters.
And even while I know that, and bone-deep believe in my work, I’m still a) learning/unlearning and b) scared all the time.
I’m not broadcasting from an ivory tower or preaching from top of the mountain. I’m writing blog posts from the middle of my imperfect perspective and my imperfect life.
I’m not reporting back from the other side, where justice and freedom prevail and I can tell you how we got there. I’m in the figuring-it-out with you.
We don’t have to have all the answers to get started.
We just get started. (To paraphrase a meme by Emma Case: We start by starting.)
Because we are the culture makers and together we rise.
PS if you’d like to read more about culture making or feminist marketing, or just virtually travel together awhile, I’d love it if you signed up to receive my Sunday Love Letter
