Hi Kelly,

The song that really comes to my mind when I read this piece is "Fuck You" by Cee-Lo Green. I wouldn't put it as the seven song but rather replace the "No one gona love you" song. The latter just seems too needy and hypocritical to me. Almost like the voice of the psycho who will not her live and ENJOY life after him. Where "Forget You" is a rub in the face of that old fling who once treated you wrong. Let say like an hymn to his realization that this love he still sought will never be his. My point being although it's the same feeling (love after love, Withdrawal syndrome, ....) the attitude is just not the same.

Kelly:

Well, I love Pink's Grammy video of her swinging from high above the crowd, wet, upside down, in a skimpy outfit singing "Glitter in the Air" without missing a beat. It's beautiful to watch, inspiring and incredibly moving. I posted it on my blog about self-employment here: http://www.vernongirl.com/2010/09/working-at-home-is-a-circus-act-but-self-employment-has-its-perks.html. But I also love kd Lang's video of Hallelujah posted here: http://www.vernongirl.com/2010/02/if-you-liked-kd-lang-sing-at-the-olympic-opening-ceremonies-youll-love-this.html

Now, if you really want old-fashioned....here is a video of Dolly Parton singing to the song she wrote (and Whitney Houston made famous) in a musical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS-F4rfU4ns

(It was one of my favourite songs when I was a kid and a country girl.)

Cheers, Courtenay

A long time ago, I spent many nights hiding in bed, while Cat Stevens sang through cheap speakers in the living room. I loved his music because he reminded me of the angel I was waiting for, and that I wasn't alone with that. His song was "Hard Headed Woman." There were no music videos back then. Melodic images danced in our minds, and my hard headed woman danced in mine. That was my dearest love song, along with "And the Baby Never Cries" by Harry Chapin. If you haven heard these laments, take a listen while lying in bed. Guys get lonely too.

I am famously musically illiterate, so I'll just come back and learn from those who are wiser in those matters.
But thank you - and Lianne's responses (and I am so grateful to know Lianne, Kelly, all because of you!) are reassuring and wise. Maybe it's all for a reason, after all.
