He Wears The World Out

He’s pro-police brutality and drinks
with his brother the New York cop
in bars in which they intimidate the bartender
into free beer past closing and then
drive home drunk.

His nose veers right
for random left hand turns
and his raisin eyes in grape juice glasses
are sites and instances of romance
and disappointment.

His shadows spill easily, sluice
down his chest and off his sharp elbows.
It is difficult to tell on his skin which stains are scars
and which are bruises but
his body never lies
still.
