A Good Day: Wrote About Sex, Talked About Sex (X2). I’m HOME.

Today I meant to write about money but I’ve got more exciting topics to cover.

Yesterday, I found The Spot. My place. Where I’m supposed to be.

I wrote an essay about sex that was so beautifully received that my eyes do watery things just thinking about it.

Then I interviewed CJ Wright, a porn performer/director/website owner/content producer (We’re in the SAME GAME!!!) who knocked me out with his blazing passion, vision, sincerity, sweetness, and bad-ass business savvy.

Preconceptions and stereotypes begone. (Insert purposeful waving of magic wand and clicking of heels, here.)

After that, I spoke with Cathy Empey, a boudoir photographer with a mission and mantra to support self-esteem in the women she photographs. She uses her lens to help a woman connect with her sensuality, beauty and essential self. Her vision is larger than that, though. That’s all I can say for now. But watch her.

And oh yes, along the way, I had a four hour lunch with the dazzling Danielle LaPorte of White Hot Truth.

So: wrote about sex, had a luxurious lunch with a goddess, talked to a porn star and riffed with a woman who takes photos of semi-nekkid ladies.

I’m home.

Then, in response to yesterday’s piece, @StacyWeitzner (on Twitter) sent me a link to a video of this TED talk by Cindy Gallop.

Stacy thought I might like it.

Do I like it?

Yes. Yes. YESSSSSSSSS.

It was good for me too!

And what I love, love, love is that Ms. Gallop’s talk was classified as an “attendee talk” – so this roomful of TEDsters had no idea of the full-frontal four minutes they were in for. Even better is the fact that Chris Anderson, TED curator extraordinaire, joyfully promoted this talk when it was first released, via his own Twitter feed @TEDchris. Healthy discussion – sex – intelligent adults; I mean, really, how hot is that?

Thanks for initiating and hosting that discussion here.

(And I’m thrilled you “yes. yes. yessssss.” this talk. I love playing TED talk matchmaker, and was admittedly a bit giddy to see my name in your post this morning. I got a very nice, non-caffeine-based, buzz from that!)

  3. You have indeed found the “sweet spot”. Sacred, adult, loving sexuality is the hottest of all. There is no substitute. I look forward to watching it all unfold for you…

  5. As someone who grew up in a household where sex was rarely talked about, and only uncomfortable so at that, I love love LOVE that speech and the site. As a lesbian I don’t worry so much about the issue she refers to, but no one talks about what healthy lesbian sex is, either…I can assure you it’s not what’s portrayed in much of the porn I’ve seen.
Cheers to Cindy and to you, Kelly, and your sweet spot and home and the fact that you’ve found it!

  6. well, yes, yes i think you definitely have found your sweet spot. i spent yesterday trying to come up with some witty and heartfelt comment, but alas. the only things i could come up with was (1) that there is a nude photograph of me floating around a special traveling exhibit/workshop, part of a graduate school friend’s thesis. (a section of her thesis was to write her own vagina monologue AND SHE LET ME READ IT during her graduating student presentation.) and (2) you go, girl. you go.
