I think a big part of the problem is that most people have jobs that are boring. So you spend eight hours a day (or, in Australia, nine to ten hours a day) doing something that doesn't interest you. Then when you get home after being bored out of your mind all day, you're so flat you don't want to do anything. So you sit on the couch and watch crap on tv until it's time to go to bed. Then you get up and do it all again. And wonder where your life has gone.

Woman, you are amazing, right, inspiring, truth-telling, and brilliant. Did I mention amazing?

Thanks for thinking this through - and then writing it - the way you have. I'm so with ya'. Balance doesn't matter when you're doing what you love. Bouncing? That sounds far more fun and implies resilience, movement, activity, and even the necessary randomness that makes life interesting.

All this said, I'm definitely going to look into being a corn-maze consultant. The idea of that being on my business card and the tagline on my blog is just too hard to resist!!! :)

Thanks, Kelly. Really: amazing.

Kelly,
Finally- someone dares speak the truth! All of this positivity and simplify your life...sounds great in theory, but I don't think I PERSONALLY know more than 2 people that actually live like that.
Life is complicated and messy and sometimes all you want to do is crawl in a hole and pull the dirt in after you. Then there are moments so perfect that they steal your breath away.
Loving or hating your job is certainly a big part of the equation. I do not currently feel that way -it sucks! I am trying to get a new career though, so perhaps one day I can be a guru of the work -life balance. Yeah right. Note the sarcasm? :)
Anyhoo- if you have any kind of life -there is no real balance, something will inevitably get shoved aside, so I propose prioritizing daily. Some days, my mom may need my full focus. Other days it's the job or an assignment that's due. One day it's hubby's turn...see what I mean? You have to pick and choose, cuz there will never be enough time!
